Bayou DeSiard Residence

Monroe, Louisiana

Inspired by the tradition of raised plantation cottages, this single-story home features a wide central hall, an outdoor gallery, and an asymmetrical layout designed to capture sweeping views of the surrounding water. Positioned at the meeting point of two bayous and encircled by boardwalks, the residence emphasizes a seamless connection between interior spaces and the natural landscape, blending Southern plantation influences with distinctive, contemporary architectural details. Inside, pale yellow brick walls, vaulted ceilings, bespoke furnishings, and a serene palette of beiges and blues create an elegant harmony of antiques, custom pieces, and inviting gathering spaces overlooking the bayou.

“Deep in the bayou, architect Lee Ledbetter provides a fourth-generation Louisiana couple and their children with a fresh take on a plantation house. The stylized pediment at the home’s entry is the first clue - this is no return to Tara.”

“Like the intersecting waterways, the rooms flow one into the other, eliminating the need for formal hallways. The home subtly blends old and new, elegant and exotic…”
